High Quality Printing

Everybody wants high quality printing but not everyone understands what has to be under a printers ‘hood’ to produce the goods that they want.

So what do you look at when you want a printer that will produce as close to life images as possible?

How about:

DPI or Dots Per Inch

This is a measurement of how dense the dots are on you picture. From this information we can determine that the higher the DPI the better quality the picture will be once it is complete. When you buy a printer the information will tell you what the maximum resolution will be. Take the Canon PIXMA MP990 for example which gives a massive 9600 x 2400 colour DPI at its maximum settings

Paper types

When you have a printer that is capable of printing off very high quality images you have to be aware that you cannot get these high quality images on normal A4 paper you would purchase from your local store (or steal out the office if you’re a bit naughty).

The higher the DPI the thicker the paper you will need so if you are looking for nice photographs to frame and place around your house then invest in some photo quality paper.

Ink

You have to know what model your printer is before buying any ink. Make sure that you shop around in order to get the best deal.

There are two types of cartridges to buy when looking at this. The first one is ink cartridges produced by the manufacturer of the printer you own. Generally these are more expensive but there has been some research into the way they work and you will normally get more pages from these cartridges.

The other type of cartridge you can get a compatible ones. These generally fit more than one model of printer and are cheaper than the manufacturer cartridges. The quality of ink is not as high though.

Bearing all that in mind it can be a bit of a mine field out there when looking at what printer to buy. Another up to date printer from a reputable manufacturer would be the Canon PIXMA MX870. This printer offer high quality and speed when it comes to putting out those photos that contain those memories you want to hold on to.
