Figuring out what to do with an old printer can be tough to do. You don’t want to just toss it in the garage and let it collect dust or send it to the landfill. Instead, there are lots of different ways to recycle it that you can do to either continue its life, or let it be melted down and reused as something else. This post aims to teach you how to recycle a printer so you don’t have to throw it away.
The best case scenario is that you are looking to get rid of a printer that functions just fine. It may or may not have ink in it, but if it works there are a lot of cool things that you can do with it. Reusing something is much better for the environment than recycling is. If you know someone that could use a printer, give it to them. It might be your grandpa, cousin, or neighbor, but helping someone out with your old printer is a great feeling. Should you not be able to find someone to give it to, there are tons of local charities that would love to take it off of your hands. Charitable contributions are also tax deductible.
If your printer is high quality, you can sell it on eBay or Craigslist and make few bucks off of it.
Assuming the printer is no longer working, or completely obsolete, you can take it to a electronics recycling center. These places are great for recycling old printers, along with all of the other “antique” electronics that are laying around your house. They will either refurbish it or melt its pieces down to be manufactured into something else. Usually you can just drop it off and never think about it again.
Whatever you do, don’t throw your old printer away! Follow the steps above and do something good with it. The most important thing is keeping it out of the landfill!
