Linux is a great and often times free operating system that works extremely well. It even cuts down on the overall cost of laptops for kids. However, in this case it’s best to spend the extra money and get a model with a version of Microsoft Windows. Size
One great advantage kids have that transfers over to the kids laptop is size. Having smaller hands lets them use kids mini laptops instead of a full sized version like we might use as adults. These are often referred to as a mini notebook or netbook. They range in size from 7-10 inches and are much cheaper and in some cases more durable than their larger counterparts. They serve as almost the perfect kids laptop. Some of the kids mini laptops even some with a SSD or solid state hard drive. This hard drive produces very little heat and has no moving parts making it a lot more durable and ideal for laptops for kids.

My biggest fear when giving a child a laptop is that they’ll get into something they shouldn’t. Even giving a child a kids laptop won’t stop this from happening. There are a few precautions you can take to help protect your child and their laptop from being damaged. To stop physical damage the easiest solution is to get them a laptop sleeve or other case to help protect the kids laptop when it’s not being used. To protect them from the internet you can install some software that blocks inapproiate websites from being displayed or better yet block the internet completely unless you are there with them. Microsoft makes a great piece of software that more or less takes a snapshot of your kids laptop computer in it’s current state and then no matter what happens to it, when you restart it reverts back to the last snapshots state. It’s a great no cost option to protect the computer from virus’s and other roque software.
Budget
Kids laptops are like any other piece of electronics, the sky’s the limit when it comes to cost. Luckily manfucaturer competition over the past few years has really helped the general public is making laptops and mini notebooks in general more affordable. You can now find models at many online retailers from under $200.00 that come with Microsoft Windows and the solid state drive mentioned above.
