Mini Notebook – A Great Second Computer

The mini notebook makes one of the best second computers. Not only is it one of the most affordable options when looking at a second computer, but it also has the advantage of being extremely portable. Most models have batteries that even last 10 hours or more making them great for couch surviving at night or throwing in your purse to use when you’re sitting at the local coffee shop. Today we’re going to look more in depth at some of the advantages and even a few disadvantage of having one of the mini notebooks as a second computer.
Portability
Most mini notebooks range in size from 7 to 10 inches. What size you get is really a personal choice. The options don’t really change much between the different sizes. I will say that the 10 inch models have a keyboard that is much easier to type on than the smaller models so if you do plan on using it for typing papers or long emails please take that into consideration. They also fit perfect in a purse or backpack so you’ll always have a laptop around to look up quick answers to questions you might have. They also make software now that lets you connect back to your home computer for access to files, music, photos and more.
Battery Life
This was my favorite thing about getting a mini notebook. I could be sitting on the couch at night after using the laptop all day and I still had a few hours left to surf the internet while I caught up on some TV.
The only thing I would do different if I could get a mini notebook again is I would purchase a model that comes with 3G installed. That way I could purchase one of the data plans available from most of the cell phone providers and have internet access 100% of the time no matter where I was. Most plans cost around $40-$60 dollars a month, which is a great deal to have internet access when you’re driving down the road on a vacation or trip.
