I’m writing this article to cover quite a few topics that I’ve noticed people searching for with regard to their computer, whether it be a laptop or desktop. The most common term I see people searching for is “reboot computer” with a close second going to “how reboot computer” and “your computer reboot”. Hopefully I can help with whatever type of problem you are having when your computer reboots. I’ve broken up the article into sections that might apply to you. Simply find the section that applies to you and hopefully the tips provided in that section will help diagnose and solve your specific computer rebooting problem.

Reboot Computer or Reboot My Computer or Reboot A Computer – How To Reboot Your Computer

You can reboot your computer a couple of ways. Hopefully your computer isn’t frozen and you can actually move the mouse. If that is the case and you are running any version of Windows released in the past 10 years you will have either a “Start” button or a circle with the Windows logo in the lower left hand of your computer screen. Click on that and you should see either a “Turn Off Computer” or a red rectangular button. Simply click either of those buttons and follow the prompts to shut down or reboot your computer.

If your computer is frozen, you’ve most likely tried pressing the power button, but nothing happens. Manufactures do this to prevent someone from accidentally bumping the button and causing you to say “did your computer reboot?”. The trick is to press and hold the button in for 8-10 seconds which will cause the computer to shut down, then press it again to get the computer to reboot.

Rebooting Computer or Computer Reboots – Your Computer Reboots Over And Over

This is a lot more serious then the problem you might have had above. If this is the case you will most likely need to boot into safe mode and either restore your computer to an earlier date or run some virus scan tools to help remove whatever is causing the continuous rebooting. To boot into safe mode you first need to turn your computer off. I’ve posted those instructions earlier in this article. Next press the power button again to turn the computer on and begin pressing the F8 key located at the top of the keyboard repeatedly. You will soon be presented with a blank screen and 8-10 options in white text. One of the options will be “Boot Into Safe Mode”. Use the keyboard to select that option and wait. The computer will more than likely boot into an odd looking version of Windows where you can either run the antivirus software of your choice or use Windows built in System Restore utility to restore your computer to an earlier date before this problem came up. If “Safe Mode” also ends up with your computer rebooting over and over then you’re best bet is to head to the closet local computer repair shop and they should be able to further diagnose the problem where the computer reboots over and over.

Computer Reboots or Your Computer Reboots – Your Computer Reboots Randomly

Another common computer rebooting problem I hear about is the user complaining that their computer reboots randomly for no apparent reason. They might be in the middle of reading a story on the internet or simply working on a Microsoft Word document. This problem is a bit harder to diagnose, but we have a few things we can try. The first thing is to run Scan Disk. It’s a piece of software that is installed on your computer that looks at the hard drive for errors that might be causing the random rebooting and can repair or fix them.

If that doesn’t fix the problem then you might have some other deeper problem such as a piece of hardware going bad or a bad driver that is causing the random computer reboots. Your next step here is to try and see if you can find anything to connect the rebooting to. For example are you always listening to music or do you always have a certain piece of software open? Noticing these things can really help a computer repair man and cut down on the time it takes for him to fix your computer, which in turn will help lower the cost of repair.

If I didn’t cover your particular computer rebooting problem I’m sorry. There are honestly over a thousand reasons why your computer either continually reboots, reboots randomly, or freezes and needs to be rebooted using the power button. These however are the most common ones I’ve come across and hopefully they’ll help someone solve their annoying rebooting problem.
