What Does Multi Touch Mean?

There are many different ways of interacting with computer devices. There are keyboards, computer mice, electronic stylus’, voice recognition, and touch input. Apple revolutionized the way users interact with computers when they invented multi touch technology. Multi touch is a way of inputing commands with a computer or other electronic device. The user uses their fingers instead of traditional input devices such as a keyboard or mouse.
Touchscreen computers have been on the market for a few years now that they’re relatively few and far between. Multi touch capability allows the user to touch the screen in two locations at once. Moving the fingers across a screen makes “gestures”. A gesture is a new way of sending commands to the computer. Two fingers placed on a photograph on the screen that are rotated to the right would activate the gesture to command the computer to rotate the photograph to the right. There are many gestures to choose from and as a matter of fact we’re still in the infancy of using gestures. Most people don’t even know what a gesture is.
Multi touch screens for portable electronic devices carry an electric charge. When the user touches the screen, the electric charge is disturbed. The location in which the charge was disturbed is recorded by the device software, and the selection is made similar two when a user clicks with a computer mouse.
While multi touch technology is still in its infancy, some manufacturers have implemented into devices that it have been very successful. The apple iphones are equipped multi touch technology. There ipod touch portable media player is another. Hewlett Packard has a line of touch screen computers they call their Touchsmart line. These computers are available in both desktop and laptops and are all equipped with multi touch technology. Dell computers recently put out a multi touch computer as well.
The invention of multi touch touch screens, is a clever and fun way to interact with our mobile devices. Someday soon, most devices will be equipped with multi touch screens.
