The Nintendo Wii may be holding the crown for live action motion-sensing games, but a new competitor is coming around the block. Microsoft recently previewed a prototype device that has motion-sensing capabilities for its XBox 360 which clearly upstages the Wii in many aspects. Although the Nintendo Wii gained a big headstart by being the first to venture into this field, Microsoft’s XBox 360 Kinect is catching up to race and poised to take away some of the Wii’s glory.
Microsoft’s XBox 360 offers a lot of amazing games mostly for hardcore RPG fans, extreme gamers and traditional gamers. With the new XBox Kinect and the new type of games for Kinect, a new kind of gaming audience will be ushered into the XBox gaming world. In order to capture part of the market, Microsoft is not hesitant to mirror the Wii’s successes. However, Microsoft’s XBox Kinect already includes everything in its package, unlike the Wii that needs additional peripheral devices to play some games such as the Wii gun. A preview of a few Kinect games being produced shows that Microsoft is following the Wii’s successful footsteps, but they’re making it much bigger and better.
Wii Fit, one of the most successful Wii games ever released finds its knockoff in the game Fitness Evolved. No additional devices are needed to play Fitness Evolved and burn calories, which makes it a notch better than Wii Fit. Other Wii frontrunners like Biggest Loser, Mark Kart and Zumba Fitness are also being made into Kinect games by third party companies. Even DS games like Nintendogs are getting Kinect counterparts.
Nintendo might be at the top of the motion-sensing game competition but with Microsoft’s new offering, they might just lose some of that limelight. Despite having the advantage of being the first in the market, Nintendo Wii’s game library has its share of buggy and faulty games that have turned off some gamers. Microsoft’s XBox Kinect might just climb to the top, but that all depends on the quality of games that Microsoft will produce for the console.
