If you’re like me you’re still looking for an XP notebook. Whether it’s personal preference and you really like Windows XP or your going to be using your notebook for business or at work and they require XP and won’t let you use the newer Vista or Windows 7. Unfortunately they are becoming harder and harder to find and Microsoft continues to push their latest and greatest operating systems. Not everyone is as excited about Vista and Windows 7 however and a Windows XP notebook is what they want.
So where do you find Windows XP Notebooks?
Well you won’t find them in any local retails, not new anyway. Used computer stores still sell the Windows XP notebooks, but it will most likely be a little outdated. Companies like Dell have seen the need to still sell Windows XP notebook computers, especially to business’s that rely on the compatibility of Windows XP.
Can you downgrade the Windows XP Notebook?
For awhile Microsoft and other companies that sold notebooks were giving you the option to down grade your Vista or Windows 7 notebooks back to XP notebooks, but it’s becoming really rare. Other times the option still exists, but they hide it away or you have to call and ask before they’ll offer it to you. It’s really sad to see companies doing this.
Can I just install XP and make my laptop a XP Notebook?
The answer to that is tough to answer and you probably won’t like my answer. It depends is the best I can tell you. You’ll need to check every laptop individually to see if the hardware inside it is backwards compatibly with Windows XP. If one piece of hardware inside the entire laptop or notebook isn’t compatible then you’ll never be able to install XP and turn it into a XP notebook.
You do have some options if you can’t find any XP notebooks and your current laptop won’t work to downgrade or install Windows XP. Companies have created software that lets you run “virtual” operating systems on your notebooks now. You can actually install Windows XP as a virtual machine and run it on your Vista or Windows 7 laptop. It’s not the same as Windows XP notebooks computers, but it’s better than not having XP at all.
While I usually love being on the cutting edge of technology, this is one area where I’m happy holding off and keeping my XP notebook. It’s stable and I’m used to it. It also just works with whatever I buy, whether it’s a printer, scanner, or copier. Whether you’re looking for a netbook or a 20″ laptop don’t give up on looking for Windows XP notebooks, they are out there it’s just a matter of looking hard enough to find them.
